On 12 October 2012, the United States Army's Special Operations Command lost a priceless asset from their ranks. SFC Ryan Savard was struck down by heavy machine gun fire in Konduz Province, Afghanistan. Ryan sustained multiple gunshot wounds during an intense exchange with a determined enemy. In an attempt to save his life, two of Ryan's fellow soldiers were severely wounded as they rushed to his aid. Ryan did not pass from our lives without a remarkable fight. Despite several gunshot wounds, he inspired everyone around him, fighting for his life for more than two hours, refusing to quit as he was placed on the evacuation helicopter. Although Ryan could not overcome his wounds, the strength and unconquerable heart he displayed that night so far from his home will always remain with each of us. The Ride for the Wounded (Fallen) is an attempt to carry on Ryan's strength, and the strength of men like him, who have laid down their lives so that we can live free. His heart and spirit of a genuine and unique warrior along with his intense love for his brothers will forever echo inside the Special Operations family. As much as this Hero has sacrificed for you and me, it is our obligation, duty and pleasure to undertake this small act to raise support for these courageous wives and children.

The Coast X Coast annual Ride for the Fallen their major fundraising event, led by lead riders Joe and Cris. It includes veterans and other active-duty soldiers on leave, Gold Star Family members and patriotic civilians.  The Coast X Coast Ride for the Fallen begins in California and concludes at Arlington National Cemetery where Savard is buried.  What began as an annual cross-country ride to honor a fallen brother is now a 501(c)3 charity honoring Ryan and additional honorees from the Special Operations community.

Our mission is to raise awareness of, and funds for, combat veteran issues such as Traumatic Brain Injury, Depression and Suicide. The funds we raise in 2016 will be donated to the SOF Healthcare Initiative.

We thank you for your time, consideration, and interest in Coast x Coast Foundation.
